Background

The Zambia institute of Mass Communication Educational Trust (ZAMCOM) is an independent professional media training trust in Zambia. The Institute was initially the In-service Training wing of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services when it was first established in the early 1980’s. It has since then seen a lot of change and transformation where now it is mandated to offer Professional media, Communication training and Ethical Standards setting for audiences from within and outside Zambia.

This mandate comes well stipulated under Chapter 164 of the Laws of Zambia Act No. 9 of 1996  and under the same, the Institute has three key pillars as follows;

  1. Media Training [under this pillar the institute offers training in Journalism and Public Relations at Certificate, Diploma and Degree levels]
  2.

  3. Media Development The institute under this pillar develops capacity and upskills practicing practitioners in Journalism, by offering specialized trainings in various facets of the profession e.g. report writing, minute taking and electoral reporting e.t.c.
  4.

  5. Broadcasting Services [under this pillar the institute offers Television, Radio training and various media production services e.g. documentaries, spot adverts, radio discussion programs, public service announcements e.t.c

As part of related diversification in order to close financing gaps, the institute owns a full-fledged ZAMCOM LODGE as a subsidiary company and participates in the hospitality industry.
