20 Jan ZAMCOM PARTNERS WITH SOW COMMUNICATIONS TO DRIVE DIGITAL, SUSTAINABLE AND PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION PRACTICE IN ZAMBIA
Lusaka, 20th January 2026 – In a move aimed at strengthening the quality and impact of communication, journalism, and public relations practice in Zambia, the Zambia Institute of Mass Communication Educational Trust (ZAMCOM) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SOW Communications.
The partnership comes at a time when effective communication is increasingly recognized as a critical driver of national development, supporting informed public participation, good governance, accountability, and social and economic transformation. Through this collaboration, ZAMCOM and SOW Communications will work together to enhance professional capacity, modernize training approaches, and promote sustainable communication systems.
Under the MoU, the two institutions will collaborate in four strategic areas:
Fundraising and Sustainability – Joint resource mobilization initiatives will be pursued to support communication training, innovation, and institutional sustainability. This is expected to strengthen the long-term delivery of quality journalism and communication programmes that respond to national and sectoral needs.
Digital Transformation and Capacity Building – The partnership will support the adoption of digital tools, platforms, and skills development programmes to equip journalists and communication professionals with competencies required in an evolving digital and media environment.
Curriculum Development and Training – ZAMCOM and SOW Communications will collaborate on the development and review of curricula, short courses, and professional training programmes to ensure they remain relevant, industry-driven, and aligned with emerging trends in journalism, public relations, and strategic communication.
Monitoring and Evaluation – The collaboration will also strengthen monitoring, evaluation, and learning frameworks to promote evidence-based communication practice, enhance accountability, and improve the effectiveness of communication interventions across sectors.
By aligning academic training with professional practice, the partnership is expected to contribute to improved standards of journalism, more strategic public relations practice, and more effective communication in both the public and private sectors. These outcomes are critical to supporting national development priorities that depend on accurate information, public trust, and meaningful stakeholder engagement.
ZAMCOM remains committed to building strategic partnerships that strengthen professional capacity, promote ethical communication, and support Zambia’s development agenda through effective information dissemination and stakeholder engagement. While continually positioning itself as a national Centre of excellence for communication training and professional development, and leveraging strategic partnerships to respond to Zambia’s evolving communication and development challenges.
